Weber Propane Grill Parts
The Basics Of Weber Propane Grill Parts
If you are a backyard chef showing off your cooking skills on the BBQ, it is likely that at some point in time you will need to replace one of your Weber propane grill parts. If you assembled your grill when you bought it you probably have a working knowledge of the standard parts for your model. But, if it has been several years since you put it together, or you had someone else do that work for you, then chances are you need to educate yourself a bit before buying new parts.
Parts for your grill can be broken into these four easy categories: original grill parts, replacement parts, optional features, and accessories. This article will discuss some of the more common parts within each of these categories. While there are several models of barbecues, there are many common parts across models.
The most basic parts needed to be able to cook are the cooking box, the burners, the lid and the control knobs. The cooking box forms the structure of the barbecue, into which the other parts are either attached or inserted. Most grills come with multiple burners, through which the gas flows to heat the unit. Separate burners allow greater temperature control while cooking. The flow of gas to the burners is adjusted using the control knobs, usually one for each burner. The lid, often made of heavy gauge porcelain on steel, closes to seal in the heat for more efficient cooking.
Above the burners are the cooking grates, which are sometimes called cooking grids. The cooking grates form the surface upon which you place the items to be cooked. They might be made of stainless steel, porcelain enameled steel, or cast iron. If your cooking grates are made of cast iron, you will need to season them according to the manufacturer’s instructions prior to the first use. A key part of the cooking process is performed by the flavorizer bars, which are designed to catch some of the drippings in order to “smoke” enough to enhance the flavor of what you are cooking. The excess drippings and grease will accumulate in the drip pan below the cooking box.
With the exception of the cooking box and the lid, almost all of the other parts of your grill are replaceable, should you need a new one. This is true of the burners, to the control knobs, to the drip pans, to the hoses through which the gas flows, and even the wheels that allow you to move your barbecue around. There are many locations where you can obtain your replacement parts. You will need to know your particular model number in order to get the right part to fit your grill.
If you want to enhance your grilling experience, there are optional features available. One of the most common and useful is a rotisserie. There are various versions of the rotisserie, including a spit rod that you can spear items such as a roast with, prongs that insert into the ends of a large item to be cooked, like a turkey, or a basket that allows you put smaller items in for cooking. The common component of the rotisserie is the motor that drives it to rotate over the burners while the item cooks.
There are many types of accessories available. Some make cooking easier, like baskets for small items like vegetables, or cooking plates for delicate items like fish, or cooking utensils made specifically for cooking on the grill, with long handles and larger surfaces. There are also accessories for cleaning and protecting your grill. This includes a variety of brushes and scrubbers to keep the cooking grates clean, as well as heavy duty covers to protect your grill when it is not being used.
As you can see, there are many Weber propane grill parts available for your barbecuing enjoyment. Some are essential to make your grill work at all, some make it work better, others help you maintain your grill, and some give you more options to aid in showing off your cooking talent.
